This soap is like magic for my skin. It makes my feel clean (without feeling dry), evens out my skin tone, and reduces any redness. Sure, it doesn't smell like traditional soaps, but I wouldn't say the odor is offensive by any means. I will continue to order this soap as long as it's available.

I had run across this product on a trip to China and was thrilled to rediscover it. Great for use as a daily cleanser. If you got sensitive skin like you may need to supplement it with a scrub every couple of days but other than that is great.

Simply excellent before bed

Ever since using the little that came with the Motley sampler, I've been hooked. I don't normally go to the trouble of packing bar soaps with me when I travel, but I always have a package of this stashed away, even on overnight trips. Like one of the other reviewers here, I like to use this in combination with a liquid face wash (Chief's, in my case) - I find that while the extra moisture I get from liquid/gel is exactly what I need in the morning, the feeling I get from Deitanseki is more attuned to after work or before bed. Your skin will feel smooth, tight (in the best possible way) and refreshed. Can't say I've ever really noticed the smell - a bit like clay, perhaps, but it doesn't stick around. Also worth noting that these bars last forever, even with regular use.

Great face wash supplement

I was honestly curious more than anything to try this product after reading the reviews. I already use a liquid face wash (Urth), but I do like to use this bar 1-2 times a week to supplement that and give my skin a little something different. I don't know if I would use it everyday, as it leaves my face feeling just a little bit tight afterward, but that is easily solved with a moisturizer. The smell is great, and it looks cool in my shower, too.

This is my third bar. I have mixed dry and oily skin and this is the only product that effectively cleans my face without drying it out. There's none of that uncomfortable tightness after using other soaps. You're just left feeling clean.

I have been a Proactiv (cleanser only) user for over 10 years....Ive always wanted to get off it, and this is the first time I have gone off of it for more than two weeks and not have a bad breakout. This soap is amazing. I've only used the small sample The Motley sent me, but I am ordering a bar today. The small 1"x1" sample has lasted me two weeks, with two more still in it, easily. The smell is great (smells like wet charcoal really) and the clean feeling is excellent. Combined with the Crema Face Moisturizer, it's a kick-ass-look-and-feel-your-best combo.

Unlike some reviewers here, I find the smell rather refreshing. I've got sensitive skin and this was gentle enough to not aggravate it while also cleaning it thoroughly. One bar lasts quite a while. Probably best for those with normal to oily skin.

I was wary of the soap after reading a few of the reviews that criticized the smell but have been pleasantly surprised. It certainly doesn't smell like Irish Spring but it doesn't smell bad at all (the smell, in fact, doesn't have any lasting effects on your face). The effects of the soap are incredible for me. I've often been plagued by large pores and oily skin. This is the first product that, when used regularly, I have noticed a dramatic improvement. Tighter pores, softer skin, and less oil. Fantastic.

I've always been skeptical of face soap bars, but I received a sample of the Nippon Kodo soap and promptly ordered two bars. It does have a smell, but I don't find it unpleasant or overbearing at all. It smells much like any other clay based products. Leaves my skin feeling fresh and clean, and doesn't dry it out enough that I always need to moisturize afterwards.

I was given this during Christmas after I was told that people swear by this soap. And I'm glad I've been introduced to it! Overall, this is a great soap. It left my cheeks feeling squeaky clean and, unlike so many other cleansers, it didn't dry out my skin.
The only downside is that there is a strong after smell. It doesn't linger but I can smell it right after a wash. That's the price I'll pay for great complexion. I suppose a lot of good products tend to smell. It sort of makes me feel like it really works. After all, we're not buying this soap for its scent!
